Royal Professor Ungku Abdul Aziz is a leading economist in Malaysia, as he has made Malaysia proud by all his achievements not only in Malaysia's economic studies but other field like educations and human resource development. Moreover, his brilliant opinions and guidance beyond the academic circles has tremendously helps the nation and contributed to more new discovery and development of education and science in Malaysia and other Asian countries.

His passion and determinations to help the poor arose the will for him to solve the problems of rural poverty, this is especially vital to a multiethnic country like Malaysia as this problems is directly involved and connected to the nation's survival rates. Apart from that, Ungku Aziz has also made a huge contribution to the field of education as such achievements were made possible with his long years of experiences. He still continue promoting for the use of the malaysian laguage at higher education level and continue to play a massive role in academic 
circles as the founders of Malaysian Economic Association.

    Do you know that Professor Ungku Aziz was the one to suggested and recommended to the establishment of Perbadanan wang Simpanan bakal-bakal Haji? In the year 1962 and he was the first depositor. 

    Then this body as merged with the Pejabat Urusan Haji (Pigrims Management Office) in Penang to finally form Lembaga Tabung Haji in 1969, with an expanded role.

      His efforts and brilliant ideas, assist Malaysians and especially the Malays, as the benefits that Tabung Haji offered will really helps them financially and specifically for their Hajj savings.

v                         YM. Professor Diraja Ungku Abdul Aziz bin Ungku Abdul Hamid was on born January 28,1922, London, United Kingdom, he is a Malaysian economist. Abdul Aziz is a cousin of Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas and Syed Hussein Alatas as well as Sultan Ibrahim of Johor. His father was of Malay and Turkish (Circassian) descent, while his mother was English. He was the only child in his family, as a result of sharing the love of life Ungku Abdul Hamid and his mother Madam Hamidah Abdullah. While sharing life Ungku Abdul Aziz and his wife Puan Sharifah Azah Aziz, they were blessed with a child, named Zeti Akhtar Aziz. He is the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Malaya from 1968 to 1988 and he was awarded the title of Professor Diraja (Regius Professor) in 1978.




U    Engku Abdul Aziz had his early education at the Malay School in Batu Pahat, Johor subsequently pursued his studies at Raffles College in Singapore in 1940-1941 and the face of the socket Wesada studies at the University of Tokyo in the year 1943 to 1945.  In 1947, he successfully obtained a Diploma in Arts in Raffles College, Singapore while in 1951 he successfully obtained a BA First class honors at the University of Malaya, Singapore and obtained a Doctor of Economics (Ha'kase) Wesada University, Tokyo in 1964. 

             He served as a member of the Johor Civil Service, Lecturer of Economics at the University of Malaya (Singapore), Director of Language & Literature (DBP), Senior Lecturer and Head of Department of Economics at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur. Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Malaya, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and University Administration, Vice Chancellor, University of Malaya and holds the title of Professor King on June 17, 1978.

The younger generation nowadays only familiar with what are told in their textbook, and they don’t look deeper in knowing other great Malaysian like Professor Diraja Ungku Abdul Aziz, so in order to help and improve our knowledge about him we first need to know his history. 

Professor Diraja Ungku Abdul Aziz has contributed an enormous amount of brilliant ideas on religion, race and nation for Malaysia’s growth and development, and without doubt this blog will elaborate more about his contributions toward Malaysia.


Ungku Aziz Received Merdeka Awards



His achievements in life for example he won the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize in 1993 IV, the founder and President of the cooperative movement SPACE since its inception in 1971. In 1997, he was awarded the Maal Hijrah Personality by His Majesty His Majesty the King. He is also the Chairman of Cosmopoint. The implementations of the New Economic Policy (NEP)  to assist Bumiputera enjoy the wealth distribution and the National Economic Consultative Council (NECC) II.
